Discretionary Expenses
Every Marriott Hotel has a category that is assigned, and the points required per night varies on that. Below is the category chart across the entire Marriott chain:
Cateory | Off-Peak | Standard | Peak |
---|---|---|---|
1 | 5,000 | 7,500 | 10,000 |
2 | 10,000 | 12,500 | 15,000 |
3 | 15,000 | 17,500 | 20,000 |
4 | 20,000 | 25,000 | 30,000 |
5 | 30,000 | 35,000 | 40,000 |
6 | 40,000 | 50,000 | 60,000 |
7 | 50,000 | 60,000 | 70,000 |
8 | 70,000 | 85,000 | 100,000 |
The Sheraton Maldives is a Category 6 hotel, costing between 40,000 and 60,000 Marriott Reward Points per night. That is about 30,000 to 40,000 points cheaper than the other luxury options in Maldives.
Over 4 nights, this might add up to a significant number of points, however, you will notice one key difference, the smallest Villa in any of the luxury options is larger than the largest villa at the Sheraton. Even worse, the entry level rooms are regular rooms that you might find in any hotel, nothing exclusive about that in the Maldives.
As such, my recommendation for an exclusive getaway should really be focused on the luxurious options, rather than the cheapest options.
